De Kalkberg is een gipsheuvel in het westelijke stadsgebied van Lüneburg. Hij wordt geclassificeerd als een natuurlijke singulariteit van het Lüneburger Bekken en dus als een eilandachtige eigen natuurzone.
Tot februari 1371 stond er een kasteel op de Kalkberg, van waaruit het hertogdom Lüneburg-Braunschweig werd bestuurd. In het kader van de Lüneburger Successieoorlog werd het landheerlijk kasteel op de Kalkberg net als het nabijgelegen Benedictijnenkloster St. Michael vernietigd, dat daarop naar de stad verhuisde.
