La Kalkberg es una colina de yeso en la zona occidental de la ciudad de Lüneburg. Se clasifica como una singularidad natural de la cuenca de Lüneburg y, por lo tanto, como un espacio natural insular.
Hasta febrero de 1371, había un castillo en el Kalkberg, desde donde se gobernaba el principado de Lüneburg-Braunschweig. En el marco de la Guerra de Sucesión de Lüneburg, el castillo del soberano en el Kalkberg fue destruido, al igual que el cercano monasterio benedictino de San Miguel, que posteriormente se trasladó a la ciudad.
