Brunkau behoort tot de plaats Windberge en is een wijk van de stad Tangerhütte en een dorp in de Altmark in Saksen-Anhalt.
Brunkau ligt ten noorden van de Colbitz-Letzlinger Heide, westelijk van de Bundesstraße 189. Door het dorp loopt de Kreisstraße 1187 naar Ottersburg. Ten westen van het dorp liggen de Tangerbronnen, waar de kleine beek Bäke ontspringt, die later in de Tanger uitmondt. Een grote gemarkeerde steen nabij de Tangerbronnen wijst daarop. Ten zuiden van het dorp strekken zich uitgestrekte bossen uit. Door Brunkau loopt de Altmarkrundkurs.
