De oorsprong van het waterkasteel Haus Graven ligt in de 13e eeuw. De "Motte Schwanenmühle", die slechts een paar honderd meter verderop ligt, is zeker het voorgaande gebouw van Haus Graven. Na de verwoesting in de Dertigjarige Oorlog werd het waterkasteel in zijn huidige vorm in 1656 herbouwd.

In 1995 vonden uitgebreide renovaties plaats en werd het omgebouwd tot woonruimte. In 2010 huurde de stad Langenfeld het waterkasteel en droeg het over aan de vereniging "Wasserburg Haus Graven e.V." voor cultureel gebruik.
