De plaats wordt voor het eerst genoemd in 1157 onder de naam Valporriera; in 1180 werd het Vallem Porreram genoemd. Het maakte deel uit van het grondgebied van Ciurana de Tarragona totdat Arbert de Castellvell de grond schonk aan het klooster van San Vicente de Pedrabona, in de regio Garraf. Het klooster bevond zich heel ver van deze gronden waardoor de herbevolking nul was. Daarom werden in 1180 de gronden overgedragen aan Pere de Déu, die de taak kreeg om het gebied te herbevolken. Het klooster van Pedrabona was echter tegen deze overdraging en verleende in 1201 bevolkingsrechten aan de bewoners. De controverse werd opgelost in 1203 toen de bisschop van Tortosa in het voordeel van het klooster oordeelde.
