De aardbeving van Castellciutat vond plaats in februari 1714 tijdens de Oorlog van de Catalanen, de laatste militaire campagne van de Spaanse Successieoorlog in Catalonië.
Tijdens de Spaanse Successieoorlog was generaal Josep Moragues i Mas gouverneur van het kasteel van Ciudad. Bij het Verdrag van Utrecht in 1713 verboven de geallieerde troepen zich om Catalonië te evacueren, wat uitgevoerd werd vanaf 30 juni 1713, en op 28 september gaf generaal Moragues zich over aan de Bourbon. Eind januari 1714 trok Vallejo met zijn regiment door El Solsonès en L'Urgell, waar ze de bevolking met geweld onderdrukten.
