Lodewijk XIV had last van anale fistels. In 1686 werd koning Lodewijk XIV geopereerd door Charles François Felix, de rechter chirurg, zonder enige vorm van verdoving op zeven in de ochtend op 18 november. De operatie vond plaats in slaapkamer van de koning in Versailles. De enige toeschouwers waren Madame de Maintenon, een minister van Oorlog genoemd Louvois, de priester La Chaise, de artsen Daquin, Fagon en Besnières en vier apothekers. De operatie was een succes. De koning maakte enige tijd nadien zijn eerste wandeling in de Orangerie van Versailles. Je kan de instrumenten van Félix nu nog gaan bekijken in het Museum van de geschiedenis van de Geneeskunde in Parijs.
