Louis XIV souffrait de fistules anales. En 1686, le roi Louis XIV fut opéré par Charles François Felix, le chirurgien en chef, sans aucune forme d'anesthésie à sept heures du matin le 18 novembre. L'opération a eu lieu dans la chambre du roi à Versailles. Les seuls spectateurs étaient Madame de Maintenon, un ministre de la guerre nommé Louvois, le prêtre La Chaise, les médecins Daquin, Fagon et Besnières et quatre pharmaciens. L'opération a été un succès. Le roi fit peu de temps après sa première promenade dans l'Orangerie de Versailles. Vous pouvez voir les instruments de Félix encore aujourd'hui au Musée de l'histoire de la médecine à Paris.
