Luis XIV sufría de fístulas anales. En 1686, el rey Luis XIV fue operado por Charles François Felix, el cirujano de la corte, sin ningún tipo de anestesia a las siete de la mañana del 18 de noviembre. La operación tuvo lugar en el dormitorio del rey en Versalles. Los únicos espectadores fueron Madame de Maintenon, un ministro de Guerra llamado Louvois, el sacerdote La Chaise, los médicos Daquin, Fagon y Besnières, y cuatro farmacéuticos. La operación fue un éxito. El rey dio su primer paseo un tiempo después en la Naranjería de Versalles. Puedes ver los instrumentos de Félix en el Museo de la Historia de la Medicina en París.
