Lodewijk XIV led af anale fistler. I 1686 blev konge Lodewijk XIV opereret af Charles François Felix, den højre kirurg, uden nogen form for bedøvelse klokken syv om morgenen den 18. november. Operationen fandt sted i kongens soveværelse i Versailles. De eneste tilskuere var Madame de Maintenon, en minister for Krig ved navn Louvois, præsten La Chaise, lægerne Daquin, Fagon og Besnières samt fire apotekere. Operationen var en succes. Kongen tog kort tid efter sin første gåtur i Orangeriet i Versailles. Du kan stadig se Félix' instrumenter i Museum for Medicinhistorie i Paris.
