Rennes is een Franse gemeente, gelegen in het departement Ille-et-Vilaine en in de regio Bretagne. In 2012 had het 209.860 inwoners en er waren 63.000 studenten. Op 24 januari 2008 keurde de gemeenteraad de charter Ya d'ar brezhoneg goed. Aan het begin van het schooljaar 2007 was 2,8% van de leerlingen van de gemeente ingeschreven in het tweetalig basisonderwijs.
