Verborgen onder de grond in de Noord-Franse gehucht Landrethun-le-Nord schuilde een wapen bestemd om rechtstreeks het hart van de Britse hoofdstad teraken. Een ondergrondse bunker met een reeks tunnels zou 25 nieuwe, experimentele wapens bevatten, gericht op Londen zijn. De V3 was een enorm superwapen, ontworpen om explosieve projectielen af te vuren. De V3, codenaam Hochdruckpumpe is ontwikkeld door Reich minister van Bewapening en Oorlogsproductie Albert Speer. Onder de krijtheuvel in Frankrijk lag wat Hitler had gehoopt het einde van Londen te betekenen.
