Bekend als de "Knochenheiler" van Berig: een genezer die zijn sporen heeft verdiend. Hij was beroemd om zijn onbetwiste vaardigheden als genezer, maar ook om zijn grote vrijgevigheid. Hij behandelde mensen en dieren uit liefdadigheid in een tijd en een streek waar artsen zeldzaam waren. Hij overleed op 13 juli 1850 in Bérig-Vintrange, en is begraven op het plaatselijke kerkhof. Zijn grafschrift is een eerbetoon aan de grote man die hij was.
