De Sint-Nicolaaspoort werd gebouwd bij de bouw van de Ville Neuve in het begin van de 17e eeuw en was de poort naar het zuiden van de stad. De naam herinnert eraan dat hij uitkwam op de weg naar Saint-Nicolas-de-port, een stad die beroemd werd nadat een relikwie van Saint-Nicolas (een falanx) erheen was gebracht. Na de slag bij Nancy werd hij de beschermheilige van de Lotharingers en werd zijn cultus nog belangrijker. Gerestaureerd in 2018-2019, maakt het deel uit van het erfgoed van de Lotharingse Renaissance.
