Het aan het eind van de 16e eeuw gebouwde hotel, dat bekend staat als de "Twee Zeemeerminnen", ontleent zijn naam aan een hoeksculptuur die niet twee zeemeerminnen maar twee omhelzende Tritons voorstelt.
De rijkelijk gebeeldhouwde toegangsdeur is versierd met een indianenhoofd dat een aardbei draagt, een zeer modieuze kraag in die tijd.
Het was in dit huis dat de hertog van Lotharingen Nicolas-François (1634) en zijn vrouw Claude de Lorraine, dochter van hertog Henri II, hun toevlucht zochten voor de Fransen die Nancy bezetten en hun huwelijk met argwaan bekeken. In de nacht van 31 maart op 1 april 1634 verliet het hertogelijk paar, vermomd als burgers, Nancy en begaf zich naar Florence.
