De kerk Saint-Germain-l?Auxerrois, gesticht in de Merovingische tijd, heeft veel vernielingen en reconstructies ondergaan. Toevoegingen werden gedaan tussen de 11e en 13e eeuw, met werkzaamheden die werden uitgevoerd in de 12e eeuw. Het koor en de Mariakapel dateren uit de 14e eeuw, het schip en portaal uit de volgende eeuw en het transept en de koorkapellen uit de 16e eeuw. Tegenover het Musée du Louvre draagt deze kerk de sporen van haar tumultueuze verleden, vooral tijdens de Sint-Bartholomeusdag.
