Volgens de overlevering dateert de kapel van Sint-Jacob van het Stat uit de Karolingische periode. Van de oorspronkelijke kapel zijn alleen de klokkentoren (beschermd als historisch monument) en het oude koor overgebleven.
In 1878 werd de kerk vergroot en kreeg haar definitieve vorm, om alle gelovigen te kunnen ontvangen.
De kerk van Saint Jacques du Stat ligt op de zomerroute van de pelgrims naar Compostela.
De vereniging van de Vrienden van Sint-Jacob organiseert elk jaar eind juli een feest ter gelegenheid van het feest van Sint-Jacob.
