Het werd gebouwd in de 14e eeuw en maakt deel uit van het Grand Rempart de Verdun. Het heeft de vorm van een hoefijzer en staat ook bekend als de Tour du Puty. De naam "Plaids" komt van de rechtszittingen die hier in de Middeleeuwen werden gehouden.
SIGHTSEEING
> De oude stadswallen langs het Canal du Puty en de Tour de l'Islot.
> Het Canal du Puty loopt onder de Tour des Plaids door. Het is een van de vele kanalen die van de Maas naar Verdun lopen. Deze kanalen herinneren aan de tijd dat de leerlooierswerkplaatsen, die voor het leger werkten, een belangrijk deel uitmaakten van de industriële activiteit van Verdun.
