Het hotel is opgedragen aan de schrijver Stendhal, als eerbetoon aan zijn roman Lucien Leuwen, waarvan het eerste deel zich afspeelt in de stad. Het historische gebouw is ideaal gelegen in het centrum van Nancy, op slechts drie minuten lopen van het Stanislasplein en kijkt uit op de kathedraal.
Het decor wordt georganiseerd rond het motto van Stendhal, Visse, Scrisse, Amo, oftewel: Hij leefde, hij schreef, hij hield van.
