Walbach ligt in het Val St Grégoire, op 12 km van Colmar.
De naam Walbach wordt voor het eerst vermeld in 1100 en vervolgens in 1222 als afhankelijkheid van Wihr au Val.
Gelegen aan de voet van de Vogezen, bieden de heuvels boven het dorp een panoramisch uitzicht over de hele Munster vallei en Hohlandbourg.
