Dit vochtige weidegebied strekt zich uit over 737 hectare in de bedding van de Franse Nied, waaronder gebieden met schorren en een alkalisch veengebied. Op de bodem van de vallei wisselen zoutlagen en mergellagen elkaar af waar water doorsijpelt, waardoor een halofiele alluviale vallei ontstaat. Deze zeer zeldzame kwelders herbergen de beschermde plantensoorten Céraiste douteux en Troscart maritime.
