De Grote Poolse kaart in Eddleston werd gebouwd in de jaren 1970 als erkenning voor de Schotse gastvrijheid aan Poolse soldaten tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Een driedimensionaal model van de kaart - ontwikkeld door Historic Environment Scotland - werd tegelijkertijd gelanceerd. Het idee voor het oorspronkelijke project is vermoedelijk afkomstig van Jan Tomasik, eigenaar van het hotel van 1969 tot 1977. Hij vestigde zich na de oorlog in Schotland en ontwikkelde zijn concept voor de kaart met inbreng van zijn voormalige commandant, Gen Stanislaw Maczek. De kaart bevindt zich in een ovaal zwembad van ongeveer 160ft (50m) breed en 5ft (1,5m) diep met water dat rivieren, meren en zeeën recreëert.
