Het station van Wharram werd geopend door de Malton and Driffield Railway in mei 1853, ter ondersteuning van het dorp Wharram-le-Street in North Yorkshire, Engeland, hoewel het gebied destijds in de East Riding of Yorkshire lag. Het station was ook dichtbij het verlaten middeleeuwse dorp Wharram Percy en aangrenzend aan de Wharram krijtgroeve.
Het station met één perron had een passeerspoor aan de zuidkant, het enige op de lijn. Het had de gebruikelijke goederenfaciliteiten voor zijstations, plus een aansluitspoor naar Wharram Quarry, gedomineerd door een grote krijtsilo.
