Dit Duitse oorlogskerkhof is een getuige van een van de grootste luchtlandingsoperaties van Nazi Duitsland. Wat volgt is de 10-daagse slag om Kreta. Het was mei 1941. 8000 soldaten werden hier gedropt. De helft overleefden de landing niet en werden al in de lucht doodgeschoten. Maar na 2 dagen strijd trekken ze Maleme binnen en rukken verder op naar het binnenland.
