De Methana-vulkaan bestaat uit een basaltisch-andesiet tot rhyodacitisch lavakoepelcomplex dat het Methana-schiereiland vormt in de Sarronische Golf aan de NO-kant van de Peloponnesus. Het oudere deel van het complex varieert van 900.000 tot 550.000 jaar, hoewel de activiteit tijdens het late Plioceen kan zijn begonnen. Een jongere fase van activiteit vond plaats van ongeveer 380.000-290.000 jaar geleden en vormde een reeks lavakoepels en -stromen. De jongste koepel, Kameno Vouno, aan de NW-kant van het schiereiland, werd gevormd in de 3e eeuw vGT en produceerde een lavastroom die 500 m buiten de kustlijn liep. Warmwaterbronnen zijn te vinden op verschillende locaties langs de kust van het schiereiland.
