Het ir. D.F. Woudagemaal is het grootste, nog in bedrijf zijnde, stoomgemaal ter wereld. In 1998 is op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO geplaatst. Sinds 7 okt 1920 is het actief.
Na de afsluiting van Lauwerszee in 1969 ontstond het Lauwersmeer met de uitwateringssluizen bij Lauwersoog. Deze beide factoren hebben er sterk toe bijgedragen dat het Woudagemaal sindsdien aanzienlijk minder vaak heeft moeten pompen. Maar in het voorjaar van 2002 heeft het Woudagemaal toch tien dagen aan één stuk gedraaid.
