History
In 1919 bouwde de kunstenaar Carl Garschagen uit het Duitse Siegburg hier een villa. Hij schilderde bij voorkeur de natuur en wolkenluchten en heeft de naam vermoedelijk gegeven. Na hem woonde de freule Brantsen er, afkomstig uit Rheden. In 1931 werd het Wolkenland met de villa aangekocht door het Amsterdams Lyceum, als schoolbuitenhuis. Twaalf hectare bos ging naar het Huis Bergh. Het gebouw op de heuvel is in 1932 door brand en in 1944 door oorlogsgeweld verwoest. In de moeilijke tijd van wederopbouw slaagde opnieuw Gunning erin om toestemming en fondsen te krijgen voor de bouw van het huidige Wolkenland. Het werd op 28 juni 1952 officieel geopend door de toenmalige minister In 't Veld.
Al vele jaren is Wolkenland het schoolbuitenhuis van het Amsterdams Lyceum. Wolkenland wordt nu al 27 jaar enthousiast geleid door het beheerdersechtpaar Jacqueline en Kees Veraart.
