Storia
Nel 1919, l'artista Carl Garschagen di Siegburg, in Germania, costruì qui una villa. Prediligeva dipingere la natura e i cieli nuvolosi e probabilmente diede il nome. Dopo di lui, vi abitò la contessa Brantsen, originaria di Rheden. Nel 1931, il Wolkenland con la villa fu acquistato dal Liceo di Amsterdam, come casa scolastica. Dodici ettari di bosco passarono alla Huis Bergh. L'edificio sulla collina fu distrutto da un incendio nel 1932 e dalla guerra nel 1944. Nei difficili tempi della ricostruzione, Gunning riuscì di nuovo a ottenere permessi e fondi per la costruzione dell'attuale Wolkenland. Fu inaugurato ufficialmente il 28 giugno 1952 dall'allora ministro In 't Veld.
Da molti anni, Wolkenland è la casa scolastica del Liceo di Amsterdam. Wolkenland è attualmente gestito con entusiasmo da 27 anni dalla coppia di amministratori Jacqueline e Kees Veraart.
