Het dorp Zuidbroek is gelegen in de gemeente Midden-Groningen in de Nederlandse provincie Groningen. In 2021 telde Zuidbroek 3.575 inwoners. Tot 1 juli 1965 was Zuidbroek een zelfstandige gemeente. Op deze datum fuseerde de gemeente met Noordbroek tot de gemeente Oosterbroek.Het dorp werd sinds 1992 doorsneden door de autosnelweg A7. De Hervormde kruiskerk staat ten noorden van de weg, terwijl het spoorwegstation, het grootste deel van de middenstand, de meeste woonbuurten en de bedrijventerreinen Gouden Driehoek en Industrieweg zich in het zuidelijke deel van het dorp bevinden.
