Deze sluis werd al in de 17de eeuw aangelegd om turf naar de Vecht te vervoeren. Het is nu de grootste doorgang tussen de Vecht en de Loosdrechte Plassen, met een verval van ca 1 meter. Het is hier in de zomer een gezellige drukte van belang. Als de boot in de sluis ligt, kan de schipper aan boord blijven. De rest van het gezelschap kan dan even een ijsje of drankje halen in het winkeltje van de sluiswachter, of zich vergapen aan de grote collectie aparte curiosa.
