Bij de aankoop van Gooilust, een van de 's-Gravelandse buitenplaatsen, kreeg in 1777 Gerrit Corver Hooft, de laatste baljuw van het Gooi, een groot deel van het latere Corversbos in erfpacht. In het bos liggen nog enkele boerderijen. Op de akkers in het Corversbos zijn stenen werktuigen gevonden van de oudste bewoners van het Gooi, de Neanderthalers van ca. 250.000 jaar geleden. Deze werktuigen zijn te bewonderen in het Archeologische Informatiecentrum van de Provincie Nood- Holland te Castricum.
