De Biblioteca Joanina is een van de universiteitsbibliotheken van de Portugese Universiteit van Coimbra. Ze werd in de 18e eeuw in opdracht van de toenmalige koning van Portugal, Johan V, gebouwd. Van 1717 tot 1728 werd ze gerealiseerd door de architect João Carvalho Ferreira. De bibliotheek bevindt zich in de Faculteit der Rechtsgeleerdheid van de universiteit en wordt beschouwd als een belangrijk bouwwerk en meesterwerk van de barok. De ingang is versierd met een prachtig portaal. De collectie van de bibliotheek omvat meer dan 200.000 kostbare boeken van de oudheid tot de vroege moderne tijd in drie met elkaar verbonden zalen. De zwarte zaal, van ebbenhout met gouden versieringen, bevat werken uit de oudheid; de rode zaal, van mahoniehout en rozenhout, bevat wetenschappelijke werken; en de groene zaal staat vol met filosofie en theologie.
