Faro is een stad en gemeente in het Portugese district Faro.De gemeente heeft een totale oppervlakte van 202 km² en telde 58.051 inwoners in 2001.Faro heeft een lange historie. Ruim 2000 jaar geleden legden de Romeinen er al een grote haven aan. In 1540 kreeg Faro stadsrechten en in 1756 werd de stad hoofdstad van Portugals zuidelijkste provincie.
