Edificio emblematico della città di Niort, il Donjon è l'ultima testimonianza di un complesso fortificato di grande importanza che comprendeva una cinta muraria di quasi 2.700 metri. Classificato come Monumento Storico dal 1840, il Donjon è stato definito Musée de France. Il Museo del Donjon ospita collezioni archeologiche ed etnografiche della regione, oltre a una mostra che ripercorre la storia del monumento attraverso una scenografia moderna.
