Description

In 1859 werd door de Fraters van Tilburg in Grave het Blindeninstituut Sint Henricus opgezet. De blinden kregen les en maakten manden, vegers en borstels. Door de grote toestroom aan blinden moest het instituut voortdurend worden uitgebreid en was er permanent geldtekort. Voor blinde meisjes werd aan de Oliestraat in 1882 De Wijnberg opgericht, door de Zusters van Liefde uit Tilburg. In 1966 verhuisde De Wijnberg naar de St. Elisabethstraat. De zusters verlieten in 1980 het klooster, het onderwijs was toen al overgenomen door een stichting. In 1982 werd ook de blindenzorg volledig overgenomen.
