When we talk about warming, we talk about melting ice. The glaciers are the most glaring witnesses of this. In two years (2022 and 2023), they have lost 10 percent of their volume in the Alps. They would be completely gone by the end of the century in the worst climate scenario.
Melting water ends up in the sea, where it causes sea levels to rise. Currently, it is rising globally by an average of 4.4 mm per year. Here at the Belgian coast in Ostend, the water is rising by 6 mm per year.
For a drastic long-term impact, we need to look at Greenland and Antarctica.
If all their ice were to melt, global sea levels would rise by 67 meters.
