This city gate stands isolated to the right of the old meat market , on the edge of the Sambre. This baroque limestone gate was designed in 1729 by the Namur architect Denis-Georges Bayar.
It is a full arch with a fluted frame and rustic one-over-two bosses. The corbelled key is decorated with the lion of the city , under an impressive curved pediment interrupted by a large shell into which two old men lying on the pediment pour water, symbolizing the confluence.
