Sie stehen hier an den weiten Gewässern der Hamputten, einem Teilgebiet des Naturschutzgebiets Groot Molsbroek. Dieses Reservat wird von der Naturschutzvereinigung vzw Durme verwaltet. Während längerer Frostperioden bleibt das offene, tiefe Wasser der Hamputten lange unbedeckt. Dadurch ist es der ideale Überwinterungsort für viele Wasservögel und Tauchenten, darunter die Haubentaucherente. Auch die reich bewachsenen Ufer mit Schilf und Weiden haben ganzjährig (aber besonders während der Brutzeit) einen hohen Naturwert.
