In 2020, the castle farm embarked on a new life when the then Flemish Minister of Tourism Zuhal Demir (N-VA) granted a subsidy of 217,000 euros to this initiative. The money was to be used for the purchase of the d'Ursel castle farm and the surrounding forests. It is meant to be somewhat of a gateway to the green environment.
As early as 2015, the d'Ursel family, the local government of Grobbendonk, and the Kempens Landschap Foundation signed a leasehold agreement for the farm and approximately 14 hectares of land around it. The leasehold agreement had a duration of 36 years, with the possibility to purchase the entire property every 9 years. Thus, it was an elegant arrangement for the leaseholders, who could buy time to think about the future of the farm and whether or not to proceed with it.
