Questo è uno dei 5 polmoni verdi nella regione di Gand. La Foresta Miracolosa è in costruzione su incarico di Natuur en Bos in collaborazione con la città di Gand e il comune di Lochristi. La prima parte è stata inaugurata il 29 novembre 2024.
Come il nome suggerisce, inizialmente l'intenzione era che questo diventasse un aeroporto. La sua forma tipica è ancora ben visibile su mappe e fotografie aeree.
Alcuni potrebbero conoscerlo per lo stagno per la pesca, il luogo di esecuzione o l'estrazione della sabbia.
Nel vicino luogo di esecuzione, durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, sono stati fucilati dei partigiani. Il terreno presenta molte gobbe e bunker dove un tempo veniva conservata la munizione. Il sito commemorativo è protetto come paesaggio.
