Er Schoten en landsby? Har du nog set på det tætbebygget centrum, trafikken, antallet af banker og supermarkeder? Har du nog stoppet op ved væksten af antallet af indbyggere? Mellem 1800 og 1900 vokser antallet af indbyggere fra 1.000 til omkring 4.000. Lige efter 2. verdenskrig er vi allerede omkring 17.000 og i dag mere end 34.000. Over 1 ud af 5 indbyggere er under 20 år, og mere end 1 ud af 5 er over 65. Schoten har flere indbyggere end 'ægte byer' som Geraardsbergen, Blankenberge, Knokke, Lommel, Tongeren, ... Og alligevel taler de fleste Schotenare stadig om 'Landsbyen'. De føler sig hjemme her. Måske ikke tilfældigt er 'Landsbyen' også navnet på det servicecenter, hvor du ved slutningen af denne gåtur kan tanke op eller aflæse (justeret toilet).
