Om Boulevard de la Gare skriver Pascal Verbeken i sin bog Grand Central Belge følgende: "Mariembourg levede af stationen. Mange indbyggere var cheminot, jernbanearbejder. Rue de la Gare (red. Boulevard de la Gard) havde omkring Anden Verdenskrig ingen private boliger, kun butikker der drejede sig om passagen fra stationen. I dag er der ikke nogen butikker tilbage."
