Berbersdorf er en del af kommunen Striegistal i Landkreis Mittelsachsen, Fristaten Sachsen. Byen med sin delby Schmalbach slået sig den 1. januar 1994 sammen med tre andre byer til kommunen Striegistal, som igen den 1. juli 2008 blev udvidet med kommunen Tiefenbach.
Berbersdorf ligger i centrum af kommunen Striegistal i en sænkning ved den nedre del af Berbersdorfer Bach, en biflod til Striegis. Vest for byen samles den Store og Lille Striegis til Striegis. I dalen ved Striegis, nordvest for byen, ligger udsigtspunktet „Hoher Stein“. Afstanden til delstaten Dresdens hovedstad er cirka 40 km, og der er omkring 30 km til Chemnitz. Leipzig ligger cirka 100 km væk via A 14.
