Kantonen var en del af arrondissementet Loudéac, indtil det blev opløst den 10. september 1926 og blev indgået i arrondissementet Guingamp.
Fra 2015 omfattede det 24 kommuner, men på grund af fusionen af Mûr-de-Bretagne med Saint-Guen til kommunen Guerlédan er dette fra 2017 reduceret til 23:
