Naturreservatet De Kozakkenput har navn efter et kosak-bataljon fra den russiske hær, der slog lejr her, efter at de franske tropper var blevet drevet væk. Russerne havde opført sig så dårligt i byen Utrecht, at de måtte forlade byen. De kunne her benytte sig af de 30 vandbrønde, der blev gravet af de fransk-bataviske tropper i 1804. Nu kan man også finde lyngområder og små marker i skovområdet. Det er også levested for rovuglen.
