Ein bekannter "Sohn von Duisburg" ist Sven De Leijer. Er ist seiner Heimatregion verbunden und genießt jährlich die Dorffeste: "Sie dauern zwei Wochen, jeden Tag gibt es etwas zu tun. Fast jeder im Dorf ist dabei und jeder ist gutgelaunt. In so einem Dorf möchte ich meinen Sohn unbeschwert aufwachsen sehen. Ich war selbst lange in der Jugendbewegung und aktiv im Jugendrat. Wie oft habe ich hier nicht in irgendeinem bizarren Kostüm auf einer Bühne die Leute zum Lachen gebracht?"
