Karel van de Woestijne wurde am 10. März 1878 in der Sint-Lievensstraat 348, jetzt Sint-Lievenspoortstraat 264, geboren, "eine breite, leere, blasse Straße" ("Paidia"). Er war der älteste von vier Söhnen des Kupferschmieds Alexander Joannes und Antigona Sielbo.
Während der Buchmesse 1960 enthüllte Miel Kersten für die Katholischen Ostflämischen Schriftsteller am Sonntag, den 28. März, einen aus Arduin gehauenen Gedenkstein, der von Volckaert aus Gent geschnitzt wurde: "In diesem Haus wurde der Dichter Karel van de Woestijne am 10-3-1878 geboren."
