Richard Depoorter wurde 1915 in Ichtegem geboren. Er war ein erfolgreicher Radrennfahrer. Er gewann unter anderem zweimal die älteste belgische Klassik: Lüttich-Bastogne-Lüttich, La Doyenne. Aber er starb viel zu jung. 1948 war er noch die belgische Hoffnung auf einen Toursieg.
