Dieser Eiskeller wurde 1875 von J. Matthieu, dem Besitzer des Schlosses, gebaut.
Es ist ein typisches Eishaus mit Zugangsstollen, mit Erde bedeckt und mit Bäumen bepflanzt.
Der Eiskeller diente früher als Kühlraum zur Aufbewahrung von Lebensmitteln.
Im Winter wurden Eisblöcke aus dem Teich geholt und im Keller gestapelt. Im Sommer sorgten sie für kühle Temperaturen. Mit dem Aufkommen elektrischer Kühlschränke verlor die Eisbox an Bedeutung und wurde leer.
Fledermäuse brauchen während der Winterruhe eine konstante, frostfreie Temperatur und hohe Luftfeuchtigkeit sowie ausreichend Ruhe. Ein Eiskeller ist dafür eine ideale Lösung. Zedelgem kaufte den Eiskeller 1997. Er ist nicht zugänglich.
