The inhabitants of Herentals are nicknamed "Klokkenververs" and "Peestekers". Saint Waltrudis is the patron saint of the city. In the past, it was a city with a thriving cloth trade. Now it is a small urban care center with diverse industries (food, metal, textile, and shoe industry, diamond processing) and along the Boudewijn motorway, an industrial zone of 268 hectares including a large electrotechnical company.
Some attractions in Herentals include: the Saint Waltrudis Church with an interesting altarpiece from the early 16th century, the Beguinage founded in 1266, the Cloth Hall with Belfry from 1590, a Peasant War monument, and many others.
